Listen – Qatar, 2024

At the Global South Arts & Health Week in Doha, I performed Listen, a spoken word and movement piece that gave voice to the silent struggles children often carry. The performance became one of the most talked-about moments of the international gathering. Through expressive movement, I embodied children’s pain and resilience, drawing attention to the urgent need for greater awareness and support for children’s mental health.

When We Worship – UK, 2025

This performance combined spoken word, music, and expressive movement to guide audiences on a healing journey of release and restoration. With careful timing, pauses, and dramatic shifts, When We Worship created space for reflection and transformation. The piece highlighted my ability to use dance and movement to open doors to both emotional and spiritual renewal.

Express and Bloom at Onídìrí Festival Crawley Uk

Onídìrí Festival – London, 2025

At the first Onídìrí Festival in London, I presented a powerful piece that blended Urhobo traditional dance with contemporary movement, spoken word, and Yorùbá drumming. Dressed in Urhobo regalia, I performed with precision and authority, captivating the large diaspora audience. The performance was met with overwhelming enthusiasm, captured in recordings and widely shared by attendees.

Express & Bloom Wellness Session: Come Home to Yourself – UK, 2025

This pilot wellness session, created in partnership with Elinth Consulting, invited immigrant women to pause and reconnect with themselves. I combined performance, guided movement, reflective exercises, and arts and crafts to create a safe space for rest and self-expression. Participants described the session as calming, restorative, and deeply meaningful, reinforcing my vision of using the arts to support well-being.

Joysteps Children’s event

This Is Me – Joysteps Children’s Event, 2025

For the Joysteps program, I led This Is Me, a participatory children’s event that encouraged young people to embrace their identity and celebrate their uniqueness. Through expressive movement, affirmations, and group choreography, the children danced with confidence and joy, inspiring applause and excitement from their families.

Shine Bright – Crawley Children’s Day Party, 2025

At the Crawley Children’s Day celebration, I created Shine Bright, a joyful performance and interactive program filled with dance, affirmations, and inspirational gifts for children. The event reminded every child that they carry greatness within them. Parents and families celebrated with loud cheers, making it a memorable and uplifting experience for all.

Earlier Works in Africa

My journey began in Nigeria, where I created and performed works that combined dance, advocacy, and education. Freedom (2017) carried a strong message of social awareness, while earlier projects such as Unorthodox Dance and Tomorrow Must Wait during my university and youth service years reflected my creativity and commitment to empowering others through art. These experiences laid the foundation for my current international practice.

Rooted and Belonging Our Heritage UK Exhibition September 2025

Sophia presented Rooted and Belonging, a powerful movement piece exploring ancestry, identity, and the feeling of home within one’s roots. The performance offered a poetic reflection on migration and the beauty of knowing where you come from.

Diverse Crawley Black History Month Celebration County Mall, Crawley October 2025

Sophia performed a joyful traditional African dance bursting with colour, rhythm and audience engagement. The celebration of unity and Black heritage filled the space with claps, big smiles, and shared pride.

Mo Rien Asan Wo Nurhe Urhobo Collective Summer Link-Up, London August 2025

Sophia performed Mo Rien Asan Wo Nurhe meaning come know where you are from. With expressive storytelling and traditional Urhobo movement, the piece paid homage to elders, heritage and the strength carried through generations.

Sophia danced alongside a skilled drummer in a dynamic Yoruba Bàtá performance. The synergy of dance and live drumming celebrated the heartbeat of Yoruba culture and Nigeria’s rich traditional artistry.

Sophia introduced the pride and resilience of the Urhobo people through spoken word and traditional dance. The performance became interactive as the audience joined in, creating a warm moment of cultural unity and celebration.
